The Cloisterie Inn
Welcome to The Cloisterie Inn.
Perched on the south bank of the Mohawk River, Fultonville, in the Town of Glen, rests on grounds that have known centuries of story — Mohawk villages, canal trade, revolutionary courage, and quiet lives well lived. The Mohawk people lived along this bend of the river for centuries, calling it Andagaron. The Erie Canal opened in 1825 and named this village for Robert Fulton, inventor of the steamboat. Kateri Tekakwitha — the first Native American saint — was born three miles west.
The Cloisterie Inn holds its own history — built in 1860 as one of Montgomery County’s grandest homes. This 5,666 square foot brick Victorian Italianate on over 3 acres reveals itself at the end of a circular drive shaded by maples, spruces, and cedars that have stood here for well over a century.
In December 2025, the current owner drove up the Mohawk Valley and found 118 Maple Avenue — well loved, full of original detail, and possessed of a stillness she hadn’t felt in years. The name was already on the door. She decided to share it with those who have a love of history and want to escape the ordinary.
Every room takes its name from this valley: its waterways, its ancient trees, its people, its past. Each ensuite room is a retreat unto itself — unhurried, seclusive, and deeply comfortable. Linger over a slow morning, or let the grounds draw you outside into birdsong and open air, where deer move softly at dusk, far from the city. Come to find yourself. Come to find each other.
